Services provided to the community during the clinic included vaccinations, deworming, anti-tick and flea treatments, and mange treatments.
Kayleen Madasamy, chairperson of the organisation, said the initiative meant a lot for the group.
“Our goal was to vaccinate pets, raise awareness about the importance of vaccinating and treating pets, and provide affordable animal health services to the community. We’re committed to supporting pet owners and ensuring the well-being of their animals,” she said.
While attendance was a little less than expected, Madasamy remained optimistic.
“The turnout was good, though less than what we had expected. Our presence here in the community made a difference, and it was an introduction for us in Merebank. We believe this is just the beginning of building a relationship with the pet owners living here.”
Community members thanked the organisation and said that the subsidised treatments made a difference. EThekwini Animal Health and Welfare said they will continue to implement similar projects in other communities to improve animal healthcare accessibility as well as responsible ownership.
