The N2 has been closed between the Higginson Highway and the M7 following a shooting incident and a cash-in-transit heist.

THE N2 has been closed between the Higginson Highway and M7 this morning (February 4) following a violent cash-in-transit robbery that has left several injured and one woman dead. The incident, which occurred shortly after 06:00, saw both northbound and southbound lanes affected as emergency services and law enforcement responded to the scene.

According to Garrith Jamieson, spokesperson for ALS Paramedics, the cash-in-transit vehicle was forced off the road and landed on its roof in the centre median. The suspects used explosives to blow open the vehicle before robbing the vehicle.

Numerous causalities were recorded when emergency services arrived.

Three security officers were stabilised on the scene before they were transferred to various local hospitals. Another three people who were on a bus on their way to work, sustained gunshot wounds and were also stabilised before they were taken to hospital. Two others sustained gunshot wounds on Higginson Highway just over the N2 bridge, and were also stabilised before they were transported to a local hospital.

“The third incident occurred on Silverglen Drive in the Chatsworth area, where paramedics found multiple patients had been shot. Two females believed to be in their 30’s and a security officer sustained gunshot wounds and assault wounds. Unfortunately, one of the females was fatally shot and declared dead at the scene. The other two patients were stabilised by ALS Paramedics before being transported through to hospital,” said Jamieson

The police and Metro Police were quick to respond to the scene, securing the area and commencing investigations. Authorities have now closed the N2 between Higginson Highway and the M7 for further forensic and investigative work.

Motorists are advised to use alternative routes as traffic is building up and causing heavy congestion.
