Rainy and wet weather to persist throughout the weekend

Despite the level 6 weather warning ending today, rainy and cool weather is still predicted for Durban South residents.

KWAZULU-NATAL residents should brace themselves for a cool and rainy weekend as the South African Weather Services (SAWS) say rainy conditions are expected to continue despite the level 6 weather warning ending today (March 14).

Durban South has been met with repeated heavy rains and stormy weather, with the area facing three incidents in the last month. SAWS had issued a level 6 weather warning for disruptive rainfall for March 13 until midnight this morning, however an extended forecast shows that the rain will continue.

  • Heavy showers throughout the day and cloudy and cooler temperatures.
  • 85% chance of precipitation.

Saturday, March 15

  • Occasional showers throughout the day and possibility of thunderstorms
  • 60% chance of precipitation
  • High: 24°C | Low: 20°C

Sunday, March 16

  • Mainly cloudy throughout the day
  • 30% chance of precipitation
  • High: 25°C | Low: 21°C

Precautions to take

  • Avoid travelling on roads and bridges in low-lying areas.
  • Stay indoors and away from windows during storms.
  • Shelter pets and cover vehicles to prevent hail damage.
  • Move livestock and vehicles to safe, sheltered locations.
  • Refrain from outdoor activities.
  • Unplug electrical devices to avoid damage from power surges.
  • Keep emergency numbers on hand for immediate assistance.

The eThekwini Municipality has assured that emergency and disaster management teams are on standby and are constantly following weather updates. Residents are requested to stay indoors where possible and only move when absolutely necessary.
