Montclair supermarket robber gets 38 years jail time

The police arrived while the suspects were still inside the store. The suspects opened fire towards the police, and the officers retaliated.

A MAN who was among 10 suspects who stormed a supermarket in Montclair and stole an undisclosed amount of cash in 2022, was sentenced to 38 years imprisonment at the Durban Regional Court recently.

Langelihle Mazeka, 35, from Umlazi, was found guilty on a charge of robbery committed on February 2, 2022.

According to the information received from the investigating officer Sergeant Msizi Msomi, Mazeka and other suspects armed with firearms held up the staff, demanding cash.

“An alert customer who witnessed the incident unfolding called the Montclair police. The police arrived while the suspects were still inside the store. The suspects then started shooting at the police and the officers retaliated until the suspects fled from the scene. One suspect was arrested,” said Msomi.

Msomi had been leading the investigations since 2022 after the docket was assigned to him for further investigation.
