Help spread the warmth with Pick n Pay’s Soup for South Africa campaign

As temperatures drop, Pick n Pay have come up with their new Soup for South Africa campaign to spread warmth to those in need,

FOR as little as R5, South Africans can help warm and feed disadvantaged communities this winter with the recently launched Soup for South Africa campaign by Pick n Pay and the Feed the Nation Foundation.

The campaign is running from May 19 to June 29 at all Pick n Pay Hypermarkets nationwide. Customers are encouraged to purchase Pick n Pay soup packets, which will be given to families and individuals living in food insecure homes during the cold season.

75% of the total soup donation will be shared among 2 675 primary schools through Pick n Pay School Club networks. The remaining 25% will be donated to civil society organisations selected by each participating store to benefit schoolchildren and communities.

To further encourage the act of donating, customers who donate a packet of soup stand a chance of winning the trailer used to make the donations. Customers simply purchase any number of packets of soup, swipe their Smart Shopper card and drop their donation at the trailer left outside the store entrance. A donated packet is one entry into the draw for a chance to win the trailer.

Deirdre Mullins, national CSI manager at Pick n Pay, said, “As winter sets in, the need for food support grows significantly, especially in vulnerable communities. At Feed the Nation Foundation, we’re proud to stand alongside our customers and partners to help meet this increased demand. Together, we’re not only providing nourishment but also hope and dignity to those who need it most.”

The campaign forms part of a bigger initiative by Feed the Nation that celebrated its fifth anniversary in April. This programme was developed from a Covid-19 emergency relief initiative undertaken by Pick n Pay and Boxer Superstores in 2020. The organisation has since distributed more than 45 million food parcels to help reduce hunger and food insecurity throughout the nation.

Every little bit of kindness goes a long way in bringing comfort to someone in need this winter.
