R400m in counterfeit goods found at Edwin Swales depot
The discovery was made during routine police cargo profiling at a freight depot at Edwin Swales near The Bluff.
KZN police have launched an investigation following the discovery of counterfeit goods worth an estimated street value of R400m at a freight depot at Edwin Swales on Tuesday (May 27).
According to KZN police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda the officers were doing a routine cargo profiling when they found two containers with suspected counterfeit designer clothes, jewellery and kitchenware.

“Both containers were fraudulently declared to be carrying furniture. Preliminary investigations have found that the containers entered the country from an Asian country and the cargo was destined for Alberton and central Johannesburg in Gauteng province.”
Police investigations are underway.
“Investigations are underway to uncover possible suspects who are responsible for importing the counterfeit goods into the country,” said Netshiunda.

Police found these food items stored with hazardous chemicals:
- Canned fish,
- Fizzy drinks,
- Soya beans.
- Baby food and spices which are mostly used on chips.
