Wentworth soccer star represents South Africa in Sweden

Braylen earned his place on the team through the GIS Academy, known for scouting and developing rising soccer talent across the country.

A YOUNG soccer enthusiast from Wentworth is making his mark on the international stage. Braylen Roskruge (14) has been selected to represent SA in an international  tournament  this week in Sweden.

Braylen, an attacking midfielder for the KZN Lions, earned his place on the team through the German International Academy, known for scouting and developing rising soccer talent across the country.

His proud aunt, Donne Kell, shared how Braylen’s passion for soccer began at a very early age.

“We knew from the start that Braylen was destined to be a soccer player. He would kick around potatoes as a toddler, using them as soccer balls. He’d spend hours playing with the other boys on the field and then come home to tell me how many goals he scored,” said Kell.

Braylen’s journey began at the Bayview Football Club, where he quickly became one of the top players, catching the attention of both coaches and the local community with his standout performances.

“In just two years, he’s already represented South Africa in Italy, and now he’s doing it again in Sweden. He doesn’t play like a 14-year-old, his dribbling, passing, and overall skill level are well beyond his age. As a family, we are incredibly proud of how far he’s come,” said Kell.

His father, Brian Roskruge, described Braylen as a fast learner who is always ambitious to achieve his goals.
