Saws has reported that scattered showers and rain are to be experienced in the province, and general rain is anticipated today along the south coast. eThekwini Municipality is expected to experience over 60mm of rain, which will increase the likelihood of localised flooding in low-lying and susceptible areas.

By tomorrow, the rain is expected to impact more of the northern coast.

Potential impact:

  • Localised flooding in both formal and informal settlements, particularly in low-lying areas and clogged drainage systems.
  • Hazardous driving on earth roads, risk of minor road accidents due to poor visibility and slippery road surfaces.
  • Damage to mud houses in the flood-stricken communities.

Residents are reminded to exercise caution and not to cross flooded roads or bridges. Motorists are requested to exercise additional caution while driving in the rain and reduce speeds in order to remain safe.
