Metro cop to appear in court for murder

The suspect stabbed his partner multiple times at their home in Woodhaven on July 24.

A METRO police officer charged with the murder of his partner is due to appear at the Durban Magistrate’s Court on August 4.

The suspect (41) was arrested at his house in Woodhaven after he stabbed the victim, Thandokuhle Mkhize-Sishi (48), multiple times on July 24.

Sources report that the suspect was involved in an altercation with his partner, during which he allegedly drew a knife and stabbed her multiple times.

Mkhize-Sishi’s daughter, who was sleeping in an outside building, heard her mother screaming for help, and went to investigate.

Sources revealed that the daughter encountered her stepfather (suspect) holding a blood-stained knife.

“She ran out to alert the neighbours. One of them entered the house and attempted to calm down the suspect. He found the suspect sitting on top of the victim’s body holding two knives. Then the suspect ran into the bathroom and locked himself,” the source said.

A neighbour transported the victim to hospital, however, she succumbed to her injuries en route.

The police were alerted, and the victim’s body was taken to Pinetown mortuary.

When the police arrived the suspect was still in the house. He was arrested and taken to Montclair police station.

Spokesperson for Independent Police Investigative Directorate Phaladi Shuping said a case was placed on the court roll in absentia.

“The matter was remanded to Monday (August 4) for bail application,” said Shuping.

It is alleged that the suspect has a pending murder case which has not been resolved in court, however, the police said the matter was provisionally withdrawn.

“The previous case (murder) was provisionally withdrawn as the accused was prematurely charged,” Shuping added.
