eThekwini Municipality calls on learners to enter mascot competition

eThekwini Municipality is running a competition for school learners to help design the new waste management mascot.

eTHEKWINI Municipality is inviting learners to put their creativity to the test in an exciting new competition aimed at raising awareness around recycling, waste minimisation and anti-littering practises.

Organised by the municipality’s Waste Management Directorate, the waste management mascot design competition offers primary and high school learners the opportunity to win  R30 000 worth of eco initiatives for the winning schools.

Competition details:

  • Primary school: Learners are asked to write on recycling and reduction of waste themes.
  • Secondary school: Learners need to prioritise anti-littering and waste management messages.

Learners need to submit a drawing, painting or computer-generated illustration of their self-made mascot character, which they need to pair with a 150–200 word description including the name of the mascot and message behind it. The mascot needs to instil positive waste culture and encourage individuals to keep eThekwini clean and green.

Deadline and submission:

Entries must be in by August 19 and can be dropped off at 188 Sandile Thusi Road, Morningside or emailed to: KDBarec@durban.gov.za.
