Suspected hitman appears in court for Montclair murder
The accused was arrested in Umlazi last week for his alleged involvement in the murder of Mohammed Abdul Hammid.
A MAN charged with the murder of a Montclair businessman appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on August 29.
Qaphelani Nyawose (32) is accused of killing Mohammed Abdul Hammid.
According to the police, Hammid and his wife drove to a fast food store in Montclair recently.
It was reported that Hammid was supposed to meet a taxi owner who had allegedly offered him a work permit for him to join a local taxi association.
The wife left the vehicle and got into the store, and the husband remained seated inside his blue BMW.

The Provincial Taxi Violence Unit detectives arrested Nyawose on August 28 in connection with a taxi industry-related murder.
KZN police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said: “Suddenly a white Ford Ranger with four occupants arrived and the occupants opened fire at Hammid without saying a word.”
Hammid died at the scene and his licenced firearm was found in his possession.
“Metro police officers who were in the vicinity noticed the getaway vehicle driving recklessly along South Coast Road and gave chase on August 28.
“The suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled, one on foot, and others got inside a red Toyota Etios and escaped. An R5 rifle with two magazines and another magazine of a handgun were found inside the suspects’ vehicle,” said Netshiunda.
The case was handed over to the Provincial Taxi Violence Unit and clues lifted from the vehicle revealed two suspects, both from Section A in Umlazi.

Netshiunda said, “On August 28 police executed an operation in Umlazi which led to the arrest of Nyawose.
“At the premises police identified another man who was seated inside a vehicle. Preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle was reported stolen in Bayview in August 2025. The man was duly arrested for possession of a suspected stolen vehicle,” Netshiunda added.
Nyawose was remanded in custody and will be back in court on September 5 for bail consideration.
Police have launched a manhunt for the other three suspects who were involved in the murder.
