CPF Bluff and security company target theft of water meters
A man believed to be the prime suspect in the series of water meter thefts on The Bluff was apprehended during a joint operation.
A JOINT operation between members of The Bluff community policing forum and ET Response officers led to the apprehension of a man believed to be behind a string of theft of water meters on The Bluff and surrounding areas.

A sting operation was held recently on The Bluff after the officers received information about a stolen water meter from a property along Valente Place.

In a statement ET Rapid Response said, “Our members together with Bluff CPF immediately conducted a search in the area, and managed to successfully apprehend a suspect with a water meter and copper piping in his possession. The water meter was established as the same one stolen from Valente Place. The suspect and stolen property were handed over to Brighton Beach police station.”

Chairperson of the Bluff CPF, Sidney Govindsamy, said that the theft of water meters has ceased following the arrest of the suspect.

“The theft of water meters has increased on The Bluff over the past few months. We have also noticed an increase in house break-ins.”
The ongoing damage to municipal infrastructure has prompted eThekwini Municipality to devise strategic plans to curb the surge.
The suspect is expected to appear in court soon.
In June, Mayor of eThekwini Municipality Cyril Xaba said the copper theft and damage to municipal infrastructure continues to pose a serious threat to service delivery, especially the consistent supply of electricity to residents.
In a statement Xaba said the municipality’s energy management directorate remains committed to protecting electricity infrastructure and ensuring accountability for those who sabotage it.
The municipality urged residents to report suspicious activities related to infrastructure theft to law enforcement and pledged continued action against those who compromise the municipality’s ability to serve communities.
