Level 2 weather warning issued for Durban South
Residents of the Durban South have been placed on alert following the issuing of a level 2 weather warning.
RESIDENTS of the Durban South are being urged to remain vigilant following the South African Weather Service issuing a level 2 weather alert for today (October 5). The widespread showers and heavy thunderstorms are predicted to pass through parts of KZN, including the Durban South.

The forecast shows potentially heavy showers, windy conditions, frequent lightning and light hail throughout the day and into late evening.
The ongoing rainfall continues to pose a risk of the following impacts:
- Further flooding of roads and settlements.
- Increased risk of damage to bridges.
- Continued potential for displacement of communities.
- Persistent danger to life due to fast-flowing, deep water.
- Prolonged disruption to traffic flow due to road flooding or closures.
- Ongoing disruption to essential services, including water and electricity.
Residents are urged to take the following precautionary measures:
- Stay indoors and off the roads if possible.
- Avoid crossing rivers and swollen streams.
- If trapped in a vehicle during a flood, abandon it and climb to higher ground.
- In buildings, move valuable items to a safe place above the expected flood level.
- In rural areas, move livestock to higher ground.
The Municipality’s Disaster Management Directorate and emergency responders are on standby to respond immediately to any events. Residents are advised to remain informed through official communication.
