Pair of Wentworth teenagers charged for possession of drugs

The teenagers were arrested during a police sting operation conducted at the Hime Street flats in Wentworth recently.

TWO teenagers aged 14 and 15 were arrested in Wentworth for possession of drugs on Sunday (December 7) during an operation led by Durban Metro Police Street Crime Unit in Hime Street.

A police source said Hime Street flats have been the scenes of violent gang shootings in the past few months.

“The two [teenagers] with known gang affiliations were stopped and searched. Both were found in possession of drugs and cash.

“They were arrested and later released to their parents. They will appear in Durban juvenile court later in the week,” a source said.

During the operation, police recovered:

  • Heroin capsules (26)
  • Pieces of rock cocaine (18) and approximately R1000 cash.

“The 14-year-old has previously been arrested for similar offences. It is a serious problem in the Wentworth policing area where juveniles are being used by drug dealers as runners. They are often found back working within hours of release,” said a source.
