Dawn Gounden for Renegades Search and Rescue appealed for assistance from people who may have information that can assist in finding the man.

UNCERTANITY continues to surround the mysterious disappearance of a 50-year-old man from The Bluff who has been missing for two weeks. According to information from the police, the man was last seen on January 8 at Treasure Beach in the company of his friend.

It is alleged that the pair had an altercation at the beach, and the police are investigating what happened to the missing man after the altercation. Police have not commented on whether the missing man may have drowned or been killed at the beach.

Police spokesperson in the eThekwini District Captain Carmen Rhynes said: “There was allegedly an altercation between friends who were reportedly under the influence of alcohol. The altercation went from the beach into the sea.

“The person who confessed that he was involved in the altercation (with the missing man) came to the Wentworth police station to report what took place. He said during the altercation with his friend (the missing man went into the water). He took police to the place where he last saw the missing person at Treasure Beach, but the missing person was nowhere to be found,” said Rhynes.

Rhynes said the Police Search and Rescue, K9, Wentworth Vispol and detectives were called out to search for the missing person.

Rhynes added that the missing man is a homeless person originating from Sasolburg area, but known as “Vin” on The Bluff.
“He lived and fished off the beaches on The Bluff. He has still not been found but the search is still continuing on a daily basis. A missing person inquiry was registered. The friend who had the altercation with the missing person came to report the matter,” Rhynes added.
