In a statement, the department expressed worry about deceptive videos and images on social media.

“The department wishes to categorically state that these claims are false. There is no such decision, announcement or directive from the department or government regarding the termination of the SRD,” the statement read.

The department also took the opportunity to warn residents that using images of government ministers and logos is unlawful.

“Such actions are misleading and constitute a misrepresentation of government communication,” said the department.

They are calling on citizens to ignore these false reports and only trust information from official government sources. The department also advised not to make or share fake news, because it can scare and worry people who receive these social grants.
