Bluff CPF calls for increased vigilance ahead of winter
The Bluff CPF says crime prevention cannot rest solely on the shoulders of police, security companies, or CPF patrollers.
THE Bluff Community Police Forum (CPF) has issued a stern warning to the public to be extra vigilant of criminals as the winter season is fast approaching.
Chairperson of the Bluff CPF, Sidney Govindsamy, said: “This time of year often creates more opportunities for criminal activity, and we have already seen a significant rise in crime within the area. It is now more important than ever for us, as residents, to take ownership of the safety of our community by becoming more proactive, alert, and vigilant. The days are becoming shorter, with darkness setting in earlier in the evenings and mornings remaining dark for longer,” said Govindsamy.
He encouraged the public to work with the police in the fight against crime.

Govindsamy said crime prevention cannot rest solely on the shoulders of police, security companies, or CPF patrollers who are tasked with covering the entire Brighton Beach policing precinct.
“Their efforts are valuable, but they cannot be everywhere at once. As the saying goes, alone we can do so little, but together we can do so much. Community participation is one of the most effective tools in reducing crime. When residents work together, report suspicious activity, and look out for one another, we create many more eyes and ears on the ground. This strengthens our ability to deter criminals and respond quickly when incidents occur,” he said.
He added that the Brighton Beach area has seen an increase in house break-ins, burglaries, theft of copper cables, and theft of gate motors
He urged residents to take the following precautions:
- Ensure gates and motors are secure with anti-lift and are locked securely at all times.
- Test alarm systems, outdoor lighting, and security cameras regularly.
- Do not leave valuables visible in vehicles or outside your home.
- Secure tools, bicycles, gas cylinders, and other movable items.
- Report suspicious persons, unfamiliar vehicles, or unusual activity immediately.
- Keep boundary walls, fences, and hedges maintained to reduce hiding places.
- Join and actively participate in community safety groups, neighbourhood watch, and CPF initiatives.
Govindsamy added, “It is crucial for all of us to remain vigilant and keep a watchful eye on suspicious activity. Our collective efforts can help deter further criminal attempts and improve safety in our community. Reporting incidents on crime groups is both essential and informative.”
