Health MEC calls for Wentworth Hospital turnaround plan

MEC Simelane's unannounced visit to Wentworth Hospital followed ongoing public complaints about the hospital's poor service to the community.

EMBATTLED Wentworth Hospital has been instructed to submit an urgent turnaround plan outlining how management will address the ongoing challenges at the facility.

This came to light during MEC for Health Nomagugu Simelane’s visit on May 5.

The MEC’s unannounced visit followed ongoing public complaints about the hospital’s alleged poor service to the community.

The Southlands Sun has previously reported on public concerns raised about Wentworth Hospital.

Among the recent stories that have drawn public interest is the incident involving a heavily pregnant woman who gave birth on the hospital lawn. This was followed by the escape of the suspect who was under police guard at the health facility.

In a statement posted by the department on its Facebook page, Simelane “expressed serious concern over health services and management issues”.

She was later joined by Head of the Depaertment, Penny Msimango, and district management, signaling imminent intervention.
