KZN Sassa pushes grants online services
The digital platform provides a convenient option for individuals who wish to access Sassa services without the need to visit a Sassa office.
THE South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) in KZN has urged the public to make use of alternative online application channels when applying for social grants.
This initiative forms part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to:
- Improve service delivery.
- Enhance customer experience.
- Reduce congestion at local offices.
Residents are encouraged to utilise Sassa’s online self-service platform to submit:
- New social grant applications.
- Renew applications where applicable.
- Conduct status enquiries.
The digital platform provides a convenient and efficient option for individuals who wish to access Sassa services without the need to visit a Sassa office.

Applicants can access the online services through the official Sassa portal services.sassa.gov.za.
Users are required to create a Sassa account or log in to an existing account to initiate a new application or track the progress of an existing one.
KZN regional spokesperson for Sassa Mbizeni Mdlalose said the platform also enables applicants to securely upload certified supporting documents and receive updates on the status of their applications, thereby minimising visits to Sassa offices.
Sassa’s new WhatsApp service to help social grant applicants
In addition, Sassa has introduced a WhatsApp service specifically for enquiries relating to the Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant (R370).

Beneficiaries and applicants can access the service by sending a “Hi” message to 082 601 0111 and following the automated prompts provided.
The use of these alternative channels offers numerous benefits, including:
- Reduced waiting times
- Shorter queues at local offices.
- It also provides greater convenience, allowing applicants to access services from the comfort of their homes at any time.
Those that may not have access to digital services can visit Sassa offices.
