Swift police response in Clairwood earns CPF praise

Members of the SA National Defence Force were deployed to monitor the situation, following reports of concern in the area.

THE Montclair Community Police Forum (CPF) has commended the police and law enforcement partners for their swift response to concerns in and around the Clairwood business district during a nationwide march on June 30.

Chairperson of the CPF, pastor Desmond James, said business owners in the area are impressed by the immediate deployment of seven operational vehicles.

“This strong law enforcement presence provided reassurance, restored confidence, and reminded the business community that they were not alone. The prompt response helped business owners feel safe and renewed their confidence in the commitment of our security services to protecting lives, businesses and maintaining public order,” said James.

The CPF also applauded private security companies and security personnel for standing alongside the police.

“Their professionalism, vigilance and commitment played an important role in helping to deter criminal activity, protect businesses and reduce the risk of damage to property and opportunistic looting. We thank all our community partners who continued to share verified information responsibly and worked together to promote calm throughout the operation,” he said.

James believes that when law enforcement, private security and the community stand together, confidence is restored, peace is strengthened and safer communities are built.

Clairwood saw sporadic marches in the morning and afternoon on June 30, and no incidents of violence were reported.

The police kept a close eye on the marchers, while shops along South Coast Road remained closed.

“On behalf of the Montclair Community Police Forum, we express our sincere gratitude to every police officer, SANDF members, metro police, private security officer and all other law enforcement personnel who served with dedication, professionalism and courage,” James added.
