It is alleged that the victim relocated to Newlands East last month following the recent shootings in Hime Street.
Although circumstances surrounding his death are still sketchy, police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said Newlands East police are investigating a case of murder.
Last month, three people were shot in Hime Street, with one dying at the scene. A few days after the shooting, Keith Viljoen of Croton Road flats, known as Cooksie and Chad Marais were ambushed on their way from Durban Magistrate’s Court.
According to information received from the police, they were suddenly followed and attacked by the occupants of a silver Audi SUV with an unknown registration number. Their car was riddled with bullets, striking the windscreen and side mirrors. Viljoen died while Marais was rushed to hospital.
Public relations officer for Newlands East Community Police Forum Sector 2, Joanne Ryan, said, “It is truly sad that the killings are increasing once more. We pray that parents take control of their children. We encourage men and women to work with police and CPF. Neighbourhood watch groups are being formed on our various streets. The issue of drug abuse is rising in all communities. Women are encouraged to monitor and report suspicious activities.”
