Police probe two cases linked to Wentworth revenge shooting
The two Wentworth men had just driven out of the Durban Magistrate's Court premises when they were shot while travelling on Argyle Road.
THE Durban central police have confirmed that investigations are underway following a shooting on Argyle Road, Durban yesterday (October 21) that left one man dead and another in critical condition.
The two Wentworth residents, Keith Viljoen of Croton Road flats, known as Cooksie and Chad Marais were driving along Argyle Road towards Umgeni Road when occupants of a vehicle which pulled up alongside them opened fire.

Although sources confirmed that the driver Marais died later in hospital, police have not yet confirmed this. It is alleged that the shooting is drug-related.
“The attack is suspected to be an act of retaliation linked to recent shootings in Hime Street, Wentworth,” said a source.

Both men, aged 33 and 34, were coming from Durban Magistrate’s Court, when they were suddenly followed and attacked by the occupants of a silver Audi SUV vehicle, with an unknown registration number. Their car was riddled with bullets, striking the windscreen, side mirrors and body.
eThekwini district police spokesperson Captain Carmen Rhynes said the driver was travelling with his friend, a male aged 34-years-old, who was seated in the front passenger seat.
“The occupants of the said Audi fired multiple gunshots directed at them. The passenger succumbed to the gunshots while still seated in the front passenger seat and the driver was rushed to hospital in a critical but stable condition,” said Rhymes.
The police said the motive for the shooting is unknown at this stage.
Rhynes added, “Suspects are unknown at this stage. A case of murder and attempted murder is being investigated by Durban Central police.”
On Monday (October 20), one man was shot dead in Hime Street and two others were wounded.
