A total of 15 drivers were arrested during initial operations and 17 drivers were arrested the following day.

Durban Metro Police spokesperson Colonel Boysie Zungu said the soldiers were processed at Wentworth police station.

“The first soldier was arrested for drunk driving, while the second was arrested for obstruction of duty and assault on a police officer.
Even in heavy rain, our officers are out in full force, conducting roadblocks and high-visibility patrols across the city. If you choose to drink and drive, we will find you and arrest you,” said Zungu.

He further emphasised that operations will intensify throughout the week and over weekends to ensure the safety of all road users.

“As we approach the summer holidays, road recklessness tends to increase. We want to assure the public that our officers are prepared and vigilant, and will act decisively against any traffic violations,” Zungu added.
