Although police have not made any breakthrough in tracing the killers, a manhunt has been launched to trace two men linked to the mass shooting.
Jayden Majority, 20, and Laydon Long, 15 were shot dead while seven other victims were transported to hospital and are reportedly fighting for the lives.
A dog was also shot dead during the shooting

“Reports indicate that an unconfirmed number of people were seated outside a flat when a grey Mazda 3 vehicle approached them. Two men got out of the vehicle and fired shots towards the people who were seated.

“The victims ran in different directions but the assailants reportedly ran after them as they continued shooting. Two people were shot and killed, while seven more victims were taken to hospital with various degrees of gunshot injuries,” said Netshiunda.
Netshiunda said the motive of the killing is unknown, however gang and drug-related turf wars cannot be ruled out.

Hime Street plagued with shootings
The shooting follows a recent police intelligence-driven operation that was conducted in Hime Street where two alleged key gang and drug figures were arrested.
The aim of the operation was to address the recent escalation of drive-by shootings and gang-related incidents in the area.
Spokesperson for metro police, Colonel Boysie Zungu, said at the time the police’s successful multi-agency operation demonstrates their unwavering commitment to dismantling drug and gang networks that continue to destabilise communities.
“The collaboration between our specialised units and provincial law enforcement partners sends a clear message that gang violence and drug trafficking will not be tolerated in eThekwini,” said Zungu.
The series of shooting incidents left the community reeling from shock. In October, Keith Viljoen of Croton Road flats, known as Cooksie was shot dead on Argyle Road in Durban. Another person, Chad Marais sustained injuries and was rushed to hospital.
