Suspect in Clairwood car theft due in court

According to a report from the police, the suspect allegedly stole a car in Clairwood before driving towards Amanzimtoti.

A MAN accused of stealing a car at a dealership on South Coast Road in Clairwood is expected to appear at the Durban Magistrate’s Court for bail application today (May 13).

Mondli Duma (26), who had already made a first court appearance, is back in court following his arrest in uMgababa.

According to a report from the police, he allegedly stole a car in Clairwood recently, and drove off towards Amanzimtoti.

Police spokesperson in Montclair Constable Norah Ndlovu said security guards pursued the suspect, with the officers from the tracking company also joining the chase.

“The officers continued monitoring the vehicle’s movement and relayed the information to other team members. Upon arriving in uMgababa, they spotted a vehicle matching the description of the one they were looking for. As they approached the driver, he noticed the officers, jumped out of the car and fled on foot,” said Ndlovu.

The officers gave chase and Duma was apprehended.

“He was brought to Montclair police station, and was charged for theft of a motor vehicle,” she added.
