eThekwini launches online fault tracking system

In an attempt to improve service delivery, eThekwini Municipality have launched an online fault tracking system for electricity faults.

THE eThekwini Municipality, through its Energy Management Directorate, recently introduced an online platform designed to track electricity faults. This new system allows residents to monitor the progress of electrical issues they have reported.

The City said that the online system’s primary purpose was to improve communication with its customers and provide current updates on reported electricity faults. The platform specifically enables customers to follow the status of their fault reports and receive feedback directly from the field teams as they address the issues.

To track your fault:

  1. Visit webfaults.durban.gov.za.
  2. Click “track faults”
  3. Enter your reference number and contact number used when logging your fault
  4. Complete the verification symbols field
  5. Click “get feedback”

A pop-up window then displays specific details related to the reported fault, including any updates recorded by the operational teams.

Should the individual fault report be part of a larger area outage, the system automatically links that report to the broader outage and provides the corresponding outage reference number.

The municipality said that this initiative forms part of its ongoing efforts to enhance customer service and increase transparency during periods of electricity interruption.
