Wentworth Bowling Club hosts annual prize-giving [Pictures]

Dawn Spack and Simon Garland were announced as this year's Victrix Ludorum and Victor Ludorum at Wentworth Bowling Club’s prize-giving.

THE spirit of camaraderie and competition filled the atmosphere as members of Wentworth Bowling Club gathered at the club on February 18 for its annual prize-giving ceremony.

The event commemorated yet another triumphant year of athletic accomplishments and community cohesion. Members congregated on the greens for a day filled with festivities, highlighting talent and fostering friendly rivalry.

The day commenced with an expansive open game of bowls, setting the stage for the forthcoming ceremony. Players of all levels, from seasoned veterans to enthusiastic newcomers, engaged in a spirited 15-end match.

Subsequently, all eyes turned to the eagerly awaited prize-giving affair. Pat McGlynn, the club’s vice-president, disclosed that accolades were bestowed across diverse categories.

“We handed out awards from the Women’s Open Singles Champion to the Victrix Ludorum and from the Men’s Open Single Champion to Victor Ludorum,” said McGlynn.

He added that they had a lighthearted handing out of comical awards, such as the coveted giant wooden spoon, which was presented to the most talkative member.

A significant highlight of the ceremony was the commendation of the Victrix and Victor Ludorum. These awards honoured individuals who exhibited outstanding skill, commitment and sportsmanship both on and off the greens. Dawn Spack and Simon Garland were respectively acclaimed as this year’s Victrix Ludorum and Victor Ludorum. Both recipients expressed profound joy and gratitude upon receiving their esteemed titles and awards.

Following the formalities of the prize-giving, attendees indulged in delectable snacks and beverages, taking the opportunity to socialise and swap tales of their bowling endeavours. The clubhouse erupted with laughter and applause as members celebrated each other’s triumphs.

McGlynn took a moment to extend heartfelt appreciation to all members whose contributions led to yet another flourishing year at the club and offered special recognition to club president Vic McCreanor for his exemplary leadership in ensuring the club’s smooth operation.
