Durban Premiere Cup: Kicking for a cause

Talented players from various clubs formed 38 teams and competed in the football tournament.

EXCITEMENT pulsated through the Ogle Road football grounds as the Durban Premiere League hosted an electrifying Durban Premiere Cup on March 2.

The event drew a large crowd of football enthusiasts who were eager to witness riveting matches and contribute to the development of the Durban Premiere Academy. Amid the uproar of cheers and spirited chants, the food stalls and a kaleidoscope of football jerseys adorning the field amplified the day’s vibrant ambience.

A total of 38 teams showcased their prowess and passion, captivating spectators with their skills on the pitch. Standout performances from numerous talented players left the crowd in awe.

In a fiercely contested finale, Warriors U15 and U17 squads emerged triumphant, showcasing remarkable teamwork and unwavering determination. Meanwhile, the KZN Lyons secured victory in the U11 and U13 divisions, asserting their dominance in the younger age categories. The Durban Spurs clinched the U19 title, capping off a splendid exhibition of talent across various age groups.

Notable among the day’s performers was Braylyn Roskruge from KZN Lyons U13, who earned the coveted title of Player of the Tournament for his stellar contributions.

Reflecting on the event’s success, Kerwin Jacks, manager of the Durban Academy, expressed gratitude. He said, “Thank you to all the teams and supporters who came out to make today possible. The tournament was not just about raising funds but about supporting local communities and creating that friendly competition [which inspires] all the local teams.”

The tournament not only showcased the community’s football talent and passion but also fostered a sense of camaraderie and sportsmanship among participants and spectators alike.
