Taste of the world: Bluff Christian Academy hosts cultural evening [Video]

Learners adorned costumes representing the different countries and served up great food and even better performances.

BLUFF Christian Academy (BCA) took parents and attendees on a trip around the globe when it hosted its annual cultural evening on March 27. The event brought learners, parents, and members of the community together in a kaleidoscope celebration of cultural diversity, featuring an array of international cuisine, traditional attire and lively performances.

Ntozinhle Nkomo, the school’s events co-ordinator and marketer, said the evening was something greater than a celebration of cultures.

“The purpose of the event is to promote the love of God, show unity among learners and the community, to give learners confidence to perform on stage and in front of the crowd and to identify hidden talents from our learners,” said Nkomo.

Grade 9’s Mishael Somai and Seth Moodley represented Egypt.

Every grade had a different nation assigned to it, introducing the audience to varied customs and traditions through dynamic performances and presentations. Grade R and Grade Three represented South Africa, Grade One had Mexico, Grade Two took South Korea, Grade Four represented Texas, USA, Grade Five represented India, Grade Six represented Brazil, Grade Seven represented the USA, Grade Eight represented Saudi Arabia, Grade Nine represented Egypt, Grade 10 represented France, Grade 11 represented West Africa (Nigeria), and Grade 12 took Spain.

The competition was carefully judged by a well-known panel of pastor Priscilla Govender, junior pastor Chris Wood, and The SUN editor Roelien D’Amico. At the end of a night filled with delicious food and thrilling performances, the judges announced Grade 6’s Brazil as the winner of the title. Their teacher, Karriena Moonoo, was overjoyed to have won the evening and said that preparing for the event was a blast.

Snethemba Cele represented Saudi Arabia with her dance attire.

Nkomo said the school expresses its sincere gratitude to all the learners, teachers and parents for their relentless dedication towards making the event a success. “It was truly inspiring to witness the collaboration between parents and teachers, with many assisting in the decoration and catering, as well as supporting our learners during their performances. We at BCA are fortunate to have such committed parents, learners, teachers, office staff and the school leadership. May you all be blessed for your kindness, support and for fostering a spirit of love,” said Nkomo
