With the heavy rains persisting, you can still enjoy family fun time with these 10 rainy day activities.

WITH the heavy rains becoming a normal occurrence for residents in Durban South, people are being advised to stay off the roads and stay indoors. While no one generally likes a rainy day, there can be tons of fun for the entire family. Here are 10 fun, family-friendly activities that the whole family can enjoy without stepping out of the house.

  1. Family movie night: Cuddle up on the sofa with a blanket, a bowl of popcorn and your favourite film. Old or new, movie nights are a great way to get together and relax.
  2. Have a bake off: Divide into groups and battle it out to produce the best cookies, cupcakes or whatever delectable dessert that meets your desires.
  3. Play Pictionary: Let your creative side shine with a round of Pictionary. All you’ll need is a whiteboard or piece of paper, some markers and imagination.
  4. Family game night: From the old board games and packs of cards to games created at home using household items, there are literally hundreds of ways to get competitive at home.
  5. Host a scavenger hunt: Transform your home into a hunting ground with an at-home scavenger hunt.
  6. Make friendship bracelets: A timeless activity which stimulates creativity and togetherness. You just need some colourful string, beads and imagination.
  7. Make a blanket fort:  Chairs, blankets, pillows are all you require to build your own den. Add in some fairy lights and books for a cozy reading nook or grab the snacks and game it up.
  8. Turn chores into a game:  Create a points system for chores and reward them — like choosing the next movie or a special treat. It’s a win-win: the house gets cleaned and the children feel good and entertained.
  9. Put on a fashion show: Don your finest outfits and strut down your own runway and find out who is the most dashing person in the family.
  10. Get artsy with crafts: Pull out the paint, paper, glue and glitter. From homemade cards to silly masks – arts and crafts allow children to unleash their creativity.

Rainy days do not need to be a dampener on your family fun. With a bit of creativity and some odds and ends from around the house, you can turn any rainy day into one that’s filled with laughter and memories.
