In a passionate ode to the carers who illuminate the darkest hours of illness, the day was filled with celebrating the special gifts of those who work so hard on the frontline of patient care.
Allison Andrews, founder of the NPO, said the day aimed to highlight the healthcare heroes for their hard work and compassion.
“It is a very important day in which we acknowledge the important role of nurses and healthcare professionals. It is a chance to pay tribute to their selfless service, highlight their efforts and offer deep gratitude for their tireless dedication,” said Andrews.
The day included a poignant candle-lighting ceremony led by Sister Yoland Maccario, a veteran nurse. “Sister Maccario and I have been nursing colleagues for over 30 years. I wanted to show students how we nurses are not just friends, we become family,” she said.
Adding to the day were motivational speeches by Janice Benecke of Pink Drive and representatives of Hollywoodbets. Andrews said Hollywoodbets donated prizes for the students, which created excitement for many of the nurses.
“Thank you to all our nurses for their long hours and compassion. Special thanks to Hollywoodbets for their selfless support and thoughtful gifts to Pink Drive, and Janice Benecke for their presence and touching words of wisdom, and to everyone who made the day special,” said Andrews.
