Ward 64 councillor Gavin Hegter resigns

The DA stated that Gavin Hegter resigned due to health reasons, and has chosen to focus on his recovery and spending time with his family.

THE Ward 64 councillor Gavin Hegter has resigned and his last day is at the end of June. The DA confirmed that Hegter tendered his resignation letter.

Provincial chairperson of the DA in KZN, Dean Macpherson, said, “Hegter had been suffering with some health issues and felt it would be best to focus on his recovery and time with his family.

“The DA will deploy a councillor to assist residents until a by-election is held. The DA PR councillor will continue to represent the ward and assist residents with service delivery issues,” said Macpherson.

His sudden departure comes amid an ongoing court case in which he faces charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

However, Macpherson said there were no pending investigations or disciplinary actions against Hegter.
