Anotha Azile Ngubane, 14, and Anathi Mandy Mkhize, 17, were two of the talented cast members who brought the production to life. The passion-filled and high energy performances entertained the diverse audiences.

“I like making people laugh or even just inspiring them a little. But most of all, I would like to share my talent through performances,” said Anotha. For Anotha the performance was more than just entertainment but presenting a show that would leave people inspired and more together.

Grade 12 learner Anathi brought to life various roles throughout the musical, but her most consistent was Little Red Riding Hood. With the little stage experience she has, having started last year, Anathi performed like a natural.

“My ultimate goal is to become a global phenomenon — someone every producer wants on Broadway and the West End. I also hope to act in films, TV shows, and even reality television,” she said.

Anathi said for her Annie helped highlight many social themes.

“One of the songs, Freak Flag, encourages us to embrace our flaws and challenge society’s expectations,” she explained. “Its message of self-acceptance and resistance against discrimination really resonated with me.”

The Young Performers Project has been a strong vehicle to help young performers hone their craft and be heard.
