Suspected drug dealer nabbed in Wentworth

The suspected drug dealer was arrested during a recent police operation targeting drug hotspots in Wentworth.

A MAN who was arrested for alleged possession of drugs will appear in the Wentworth Magistrate’s Court on November 28. The accused appeared in court on August 28.

He was arrested after the police received information about a drug dealer distributing drugs in Wentworth.

Police spokesperson in Wentworth Captain Mbuso Gumede said, “The members of Wentworth Crime prevention were on duty when they conducted an intelligence-driven drug bust operation in the area. The police conducted strategic stop and searches on Austerville Drive. While conducting their operations, the police noticed a suspicious white Nissan Almera Sedan with dark tinted windows.

“The members of Metro Police, Durban Public Order Police, Provincial Drug Unit and Firearm Unit were also part of the operation.

“The members searched the vehicle and seized a large quantity of assorted drugs. Some were found inside the suspect’s residence.

The police confiscated the following drugs:
  • Methcathinone Rocks
  • 120g of Cat
  • Three plastics of 33g of Cat.

“The total street value of all exhibits recovered was R249 500 in Methcathinone,” Gumede added.

The accused was released on R5000 bail.

Station commander Colonel Sinayo Mtshali praised the members for their swift reaction.

“The officers in Wentworth police station are committed in fighting the scourge of drugs in our policing precinct,” said Mtshali.
