The investigating officer who led the investigation, Sergeant Bhekumuzi Dlamini, said Zaca and three other men robbed an individual who was walking on South Coast Road in December 2024.

“The victim was an employee at one of the companies near Clairwood. The victim was on his way to work when three men accosted him and demanded money. They robbed him of his cellphone worth over R3000. Zaca and his accomplices fled shortly after the robbery.
“The incident was reported to Montclair police station for further investigation. The police investigation led to the residence of the accused in Clairwood. We discovered that he was one of the residents in the informal settlement in Clairwood,” said Dlamini.
Dlamini said Zaca’s arrest has brought some relief among Clairwood residents.

“Police received information that after Zaca was arrested there have been minimal incidents of armed robberies between South Coast and Blamey Roads. However, there are still sporadic incidents that the police are monitoring.
“Zaca’s conviction will send a clear message to all the criminals that the Montclair police have taken a strong stance against crime. The other suspects who were with the accused on the day of the robbery are still at large, but the police are following leads to bring them to book,” Dlamini added.
