AS the festive season is fast approaching, Wentworth Angels have launched its annual appeal for Christmas senior hampers and Adopt-a-Child initiatives.

The reason behind the cause

Tracey Williams, founder of the non-profit, said the organisation hopes to help at least 50 families this year with fully stocked grocery hampers, put together through community donations. The hampers are designed to support seniors and single-parent households during the holiday period.

“This food drive has taken on special meaning to help these families through the holiday season. We are dedicated to supporting seniors and single-parent households, and these hampers are more than just a meal for one day; they provide food security for days on end. These staples are to bring comfort and nourishment to the families during the celebration of the season,” said Williams.

The donors, according to Williams, can contribute either by buying an item from the list, sponsoring a full hamper or making a deposit directly into the Wentworth Angels bank account.

“If there is a willing company, they can even sponsor a couple of hampers in full, that would be appreciated. Every bit of support helps our families get through the season with dignity,” she said.

Adopt-a-Child initiative

Running concurrently with the hamper appeal is the Adopt-a-Child drive, a favourite among long-time supporters. Through the Wentworth Angels’ Facebook page, community members can browse profiles of children, select one and buy them two outfits, underwear, shoes and toiletries for Christmas.

“Poverty exists in every community, and our goal has always been to make a difference for our people, especially the elderly and the young,” said Williams.
