Season of giving: NPOs to support this festive season

With the festive season here, many NPOs are looking to the community for support to make the season memorable.

THE festive season is known as the season of giving and several NPOs in Durban South are urging the community to assist them in ensuring a safe, dignified and happy Christmas for those in their care. Many of these organisations rely completely on the community completely.

Journey for Hope Baby Home

The Journey of Hope Baby Home on The Bluff is reaching out to the community to aid them in spreading Christmas cheer to the seven children in their care. The community can help the home with supplies so that the staff can ensure the children have a warm and loving holiday.

Items required include:

  • Infacare 1 and 2
  • Nappies, size 3, 4, 5 and 6
  • Wet wipes
  • Bath wash
  • Yoghurt
  • Mini cheddars, tennis biscuits and Marie biscuits
  • NikNaks
  • Viennas
  • Bananas, grapes and apples
  • Pasta
  • Two-minute noodles
  • Black refuse bags
  • Dishwasher
  • Domestos
  • Dishwasher tablets
  • Milton
  • Washing powder
  • Handy Andy
  • Sweet tomato relish
  • Mini sausage rolls
  • Mince
  • Chicken pops/ nuggets
  • Eggs

Merewent Cheshire Home

The Merewent Cheshire Home, which takes care of adults living with physical disabilities, is set to hold a Christmas feast for the residents and is requesting help to make this occasion one to remember.

The items needed include:

• 15 whole chickens

• 4 turkeys

• 3 legs of roast

• 10kg rice

• 5l cooking oil

• 7kg potatoes

• 2kg Mixed vegetables

• 7kg Onions

• 3kg Mayonnaise

• 2kg Cabbages

• 5kg Carrots

• 7kg Butternut

• 5kg beetroot

• 20 packs 2lt coooldrink

• 2.5l of ice cream.

• Ultramel x 6

• Canned fruit salad x6

  • Christmas crackers and nuts.

St Monica’s Children’s Home

St Monica’s Children’s Home is concentrating on ensuring that children have things that help in self-care and learning as they go into the festive recess.

Items needed include:

  • Roll-ons
  • Body lotion
  • Soap
  • Pencil cases
  • Pre-loved clothes
  • Pre-loved toys

With the festive season fast approaching, these NPOs take this opportunity to remind the community that every  contribution  counts towards ensuring that the children and elderly in Durban South have a brighter Christmas.
