The announcement comes after Laguna Beach was temporarily closed due to pollution associated with heavy rainfall that pounded the city several weeks ago. The municipality said it acted swiftly to fix infrastructure shortcomings that caused the contamination, allowing them to reopen the beach after follow-up tests confirmed that water quality levels were within the safe limits.
According to the municipality, this coastline restoration is well underway, with the City working towards reinstating coastal facilities to the high standards enjoyed before the devastating April 2022 floods.
“eThekwini Municipality remains committed to ensuring safe, welcoming and world-class beach experiences during the festive season and beyond for all residents and visitors,” read the statement.
The municipality said swimmers and visitors can access the beach status updates on the City’s official website. The updated results of beach water quality are also posted on notice boards at all designated bathing beaches in Durban.
