Blue Bundu Brigade hits ‘paws’ after vehicle breaks down

Blue Bundu Brigade’s vehicle used for rescuing, vet trips and other work has broken down and they are appealing to the community for help.

THE Blue Bundu Brigade (BBB), a dedicated animal rescue group, is calling on the public for help to repair their vehicle used for rescues and other work. The breakdown of the car has ceased much of the work at BBB.

Karen Janisch, one of the directors, said their 15-year-old car is essential for their daily operations.

“It is their main way of doing rescues. The car is used for fetching donations, transporting dogs to the vet, meetings with potential adopters, picking up stray dogs, and delivering food to kennels,” she said.

Janisch added the car stopped working recently and had to be towed to a mechanic who said the engine was broken. The organisation chose to install a used engine, which is expected to have fewer problems while still being affordable.

The engine replacement will cost about R20 000. This is a large expense for the non-profit. The organisation knows that especially coming after the holiday season, money is tight for many families, including the organisation, which is why they have looked to extend their ongoing raffle one final time.

The raffle

The hamper, valued at R2 500, contains a variety of alcohol, snacks as well as treats for the fur babies. Janisch said raffle tickets can be purchased by depositing the money into the organisation’s FNB account (account number 63129488284) with the reference donation and your name. Proof of payment must be sent to Janisch on WhatsApp on 062 436 8810.

The draw will take place on February 7 and will not be extended. Janisch said that if businesses or individuals require a section 18a certificate they can contact her for it.

Wheels for paws

The organisation simultaneously has an ambitious goal to raise funds to purchase a caddy, which would be better for rescues. The current car has limits, and a caddy would make their work easier.

Those interested in supporting the organisation can donate via their BackaBuddy at https://www.backabuddy.co.za/campaign/wheels-for-paws.
