RTL8 extends blood donation drive
In order to combat the critically low blood stock levels, RTL8 has extended their blood donation drive to the end of the week.
RTL8, in collaboration with the South African National Blood Service (SANBS), is extending its blood drive at the Bluff Towers SANBS donor centre to February 15. The initial campaign ran from February 6-8, but was extended as the number of people who came out was not as expected.

Annalyn Daniels, supervisor at the Bluff Towers centre, said that 76 people gave blood during those first three days.
Shaun Venter from RTL8 expressed his gratitude to those who donated, but also shared his disappointment with the number of donors which was less than what was expected.
“Because of the critical blood shortage, we’ve decided to extend the blood drive for the rest of the week to give more members the opportunity to donate and help save lives,” said Venter.

To get more people interested, RTL8 is looking to add some incentives to the donation drive. On February 15, they will have a cake raffle at the donor centre where people can spin the wheel. If you donate, you could win a cake. People who already donated and sent in their picture and name will get two chances to spin.
“The spin will be recorded and shown on RTL8’s Facebook page. The winner will be revealed online and, on the channel,” said Venter.
He encouraged people who can donate to visit the donor centre, and emphasised how important it is. Photos and entries can be sent through WhatsApp on 061 466 3081.
Daniels said that the SANBS team hopes extending the blood drive will allow for an increased number of donors.
