Elderly urged to report abuse to police stations
The aim of the meeting was to restore faith, hope and dignity to the elderly people in Wentworth and Merebank.
ELDERLY people were urged to break the silence and report any abuse to the police during a crime Imbizo held in Wentworth on March 21.
The event coincided with the commemoration of Human Rights Day, a holiday that reflects on the history of the Sharpeville massacre.

Station commander for Wentworth police station, Colonel Sinayo Mtshali, together with her management, partnered with the chairperson of the Spiritual Crime Prevention Forum, Moulana Tariq Mohamed, to tackle social ills in the Wentworth policing precinct.
The aim of the meeting was to restore faith, hope and dignity to the elderly people in Wentworth and Merebank. Mtshali assured pensioners and told them that the police care about their well-being.
Constable Brigdet Enicker, who directed the programme, offered the elderly an opportunity to engage with the police during an interactive session.
Police spokesperson in Wentworth Captain Mbuso Gumede said, “The elderly received grocery hampers to the value of R500 each and R300 vouchers were handed to the winners who have participated in the programme.”
Gumede emphasised the importance of collaboration between the police and Spiritual Crime Prevention Forum in addressing social ills.
