Black-clad SDCEA workers stand against GBV [Video]
Co-ordinator of SDCEA Desmond D'sa said workers and volunteers decided to wear all black today to show their solidarity with victims of GBV.
THE South Durban Community Environmental Alliance (SDCEA) has come out strongly against Gender-Based Violence as killing of women continues to send shockwaves across the country.
The organisation’s call comes amid the recent discovery of the bodies of several women in and around Kempton Park, in Ekurhuleni.
The recent incidents have reignited concerns over the country’s ongoing femicide crisis and the safety of women.
Co-ordinator of SDCEA Desmond D’sa said workers and volunteers decided to wear all black today (September 18) to show their solidarity with victims of GBV.

“We add voices to millions of South African people who are angry with the increasing killings of women throughout South Africa and the nine women who were killed in Kempton Park.
“We are shocked and angry with the South African government, the police, who are failing to adequately deal with the ongoing problem of violence and abuse,” he said.
D’sa urged the South African government to act swiftly and arrest the perpetrators of GBV.
“The government must change the laws of this country so that the men who kill women, should not be released and not allowed to walk our streets and posing a threat to our women and children. We have a policy at SDCEA which all our workers, including our volunteers and partners, have signed stating that we will not tolerate GBV,” D’sa added.
According to media reports, the ninth body of another woman was discovered in Dawn Park in Ekurhuleni on Thursday morning (September 17).
The victim’s body was reportedly found half-naked and wrapped in a sheet along the side of the road.
