Pay Stainbank to keep the monkeys inside

Donate money to Stainbank.

EDITOR – My son, Morris Rogers, wrote a letter to the Sun’s letters column which appeared in the 20 September edition, with regards to the monkey problems we have in our area.

There is nothing more disappointing than going out shopping and on your return, finding the vervet monkeys have stopped over for lunch and your leeks, spring onions and green beans have been eaten.

I went into this problem some years ago with the SPCA and the Parks Board and was told the best way to keep the monkeys away is to make life uncomfortable for them. The suggestion made with regards to the supermarkets donating their out of date vegetables, fruit and bread to Stainbank Nature Reserve is a good one and I must also give credit to my other son, Clint, who has worked with wildlife and originally came up with the suggestion. My suggestion is all the people who have such strong feelings about monkey protection, should donate money to Stainbank so they have the reserve electrically fenced so the monkeys cannot get out of the reserve or pay to have my home electric-fenced to keep them out of my property.
