Bluff Bowling Club women’s team secures bronze in Port Natal trips

Bowlers faced stiff competition, and it was a hard-fought win for Bluff Bowling Club to secure the bronze medal in the Port Natal women's trips.

THE Port Natal Women’s Trips tournament witnessed the Bluff Bowling Club’s valiant journey, culminating in a hard-fought victory, securing the bronze medal recently.

The tournament, held at various venues across the region, showcased the dedication and prowess of female bowlers from different clubs, with Bluff Bowling Club emerging as a standout contender.

The play-off stage at Hillary Bowling Club on March 23 set the stage for Bluff’s initial triumph as they squared off against Wentworth Bowling Club. With precision and determination, Bluff Bowling Club secured the victory, propelling them into the next round where they faced off against Hillary Bowling Club on the same day. Undeterred by the quick turnaround, Bluff Bowling Club maintained their momentum, clinching another impressive win and advancing further in the tournament.

However, the journey to the top was not without its challenges. In the semi-finals held on March 24, at Parkhill Bowling Club, Bluff Bowling Club encountered a formidable opponent in Amanzimtoti Bowling Club. Despite a valiant effort, Bluff faced a narrow defeat, falling short by just one shot. Determined to finish strong, they regrouped for the battle for 3rd and 4th place.

Facing off against Winkelspruit Bowling Club in the bronze medal match, Bluff Bowling Club exhibited impeccable teamwork. In a closely contested encounter, they emerged victorious with a final score of 19–17, clinching the bronze medal.

Reflecting on their journey, Jay Retief, the lead for Bluff Bowling Club’s women’s team, emphasised the club’s ethos of unity and resilience. “The Bluff team’s motto of the game is – we win together and we lose together; tomorrow, the sun will still shine.”
