Mixed results for Merebank Cricket Club

It was a mixed feeling at the crease as the season kicked off for Merebank Cricket Club, raking in a win and a loss.

MEREBANK Cricket Club had an up-and-down start to the season, with games showing both potential and grit.

KwaMashu match

On January 24, the second team took on KwaMashu in a T20 match at Dhubri Road grounds. KwaMashu scored 156 for five wickets, making a tough chase for Merebank. Merebank were only able to mount 125 for 8 wickets, losing by 31 runs. Mckaylin Pillay was the top batsman for the Merebank team, scoring 32 runs, and Mubin Patel was the best bowler, taking two wickets.

Ntuzuma match

On January 17, the first team won a tight game against Ntuzuma at Dhubri Road grounds. Ntuzuma batted first and scored 159 runs for eight wickets. Merebank responded well, with Raphael Samuels scoring 58 runs. Yuvek Maharaj scored an unbeaten 26 runs. Nishen Naidoo bowled an amazing economic spell, taking three wickets for 13 runs in four overs, and Pillay took three wickets for 29 runs in four overs. Merebank’s hard work to a nine-run victory over Ntuzuma.

Reflecting on the matches

After the games, Manesh Maharaj from Merebank Cricket Club said that the team had some good moments but could be better. As the season moves ahead, Merebank Cricket Club look to hopefully secure more wins under their name.
