SATURDAY, 2 SEPTEMBER: Birdlife Port Natal meets with Elena Russell at Tanglewood from at 6.30am. Call 031-705-2902 or email elenarussell@telkomsa.net. Directions: Take the exit at the bottom of Field’s Hill on the M13. Turn onto Richmond Road at the off ramp lights (traveling away from Pinetown). Turn right onto Trafford Road. Travel 1.2kms and just before the lights, turn right onto Motala Road. At the traffic circle turn left onto Naidoo Road. After about 300 metres you will see the entrance in front of you. Meet at the bottom gate from 6.15am where everyone will drive in together. Picnic tea at the Boathouse. It is vital to meet at the gate before 6.30am as the gate is then locked. There will be a silver collection for the Hillcrest Conservancy.

 

SATURDAY, 2 SEPTEMBER: Birdlife Port Natal welcomes all to the BLKZN Forum at WESSA Umgeni in Howick at 8.30am. Go and listen to the experts talk on conservation in the province – both avian and other. WESSA is situated just outside Howick on the Karkloof Road. Tea and biscuits are provided, but take your own picnic lunch. Contact Lesley on 083-231-3408 for more information.

 

SUNDAY, 3 SEPTEMBER: Birdlife Port Natal meets at the Sappi hide at 6.45am with Rex Aspeling. Call Rex to confirm on 082-301-8177 or email rex.aspeling@gmail.com. Directions: Take the N2 north and the left on-ramp at R74 KwaDukuza and left towards KwaDukuza (Stanger). About 1km further, turn left at the Sappi turnoff. Follow the road until you see the mill on your right. There is no need to sign in. Meet at the picnic area past the hide at 6.45am. The first 10 will go to the hide and the rest for a stroll around the dam, to swop later. Enjoy tea and coffee in the picnic area afterwards. It is a good idea to take cushions as well as chairs and tea or coffee.

 

SATURDAY, 9 SEPTEMBER: The Genealogical Society of SA Durban and Coastal branch meets at 1.30pm sharp at 1860 Heritage Museum, 1 Derby Road, Greyville (just off Gladys Manzi Road near the Engen Garage. Safe parking is available at the museum.

Speaker will be Dr Juggie Pather (PhD) who is the author of ‘Clairwood: The Untold Story’. There will be a tour of the Heritage Museum, the charge for which is a donation. This is an extra-special event as Dr Pather is not often available.

 

SATURDAY, 9 SEPTEMBER – Yellowwood Park Conservancy holds a fun morning with a 5km and 10km run, walk or ride in Stainbank Nature Reserve. Registration starts at 6.30am for an 8am start.Entrance costs R20 per person. MTB riders should take their own bikes and children must be accompanied by adults. There will be prizes to be won. All funds raised will go towards funding the 2017 Conservancy projects. For more information, call John on 072-139-5862.
