Grosvenor Girls High School learners enjoyed a fundraiser aimed at giving the matrics a last hurrah before their trial exams.
GROSVENOR Girls High School swapped out blazers for blankets and school shoes for slippers as learners wore their coziest pyjamas to school on August 1 for the school’s pyjama day fundraiser.

Organised by the matric council, the event was one of the school’s final fundraising efforts before trial exams and gave a playful twist to the usual school day. The day of fun not only saw learners and teachers arrive dressed in their most comfortable pyjamas but also included a market day during break time. Other clubs, societies and sports teams also capitalised on the event to sell and raise money for their respective causes.

Ilze du Plessis, one of the teachers involved with the matric portfolio council, said the event was about letting loose.
“As much as academics are important, it is necessary for schools to promote these fun days as well. It gives the learners the opportunity to organise events themselves with educators playing a supportive role in the background. Planning these types of events exposes them to what it’s like organising big events which could be beneficial post-matric in a working environment and to practise the problem-solving skills that accompany it,” said Du Plessis.

She praised the learner leaders for planning the event responsibly. “Our amazing learner leaders basically organised the day themselves and everything ran smoothly,” said Du Plessis.
The fundraiser managed to raise funds and lift morale as learners and staff enjoyed singing and dancing together during the breaks.

Du Plessis added that the day provided much relief from routine for both the learners and teachers as they seemed to enjoy coming to school in something other than their uniforms.
“Special thanks to all the staff members who participated and supported the initiative and especially Senrika Eshwarduth, with whom I share the matric council portfolio,” said Du Plessis.
