Walk of remembrance to curb fermicide in Jabulani

Community residents and ANC officials took the courage to mourn for the late Nonkululeko Mnisi and to raise awareness on femicide, woman and child abuse.

Following a sad story of a young woman called Nonkululeko Mnisi who was allegedly murdered on October 14, 2018, a candlelight session and a walk of remembrance took place at Bridgeman Jabulani and they later went to Mnisi’s home for prayers and speeches.

“The walk was aimed at raising awareness on femicide, to mark important dates around her murder scene and to also make the community aware that we abhor such conduct from our male compatriots that all women should be treated with dignity and respect,” said the ANC Zone8 ZONAL Secretary, Steve Mahopo.

The walk consisted of about 30 residents mostly young women but the most unfortunate part was a shortage of young men as it would have been a pleasure for them to add their voices to curb women and child abuse.

“Several people added their support and solidarity with our efforts to highlight the scourage of femicide and among those who supported the walk was the Jabulani ward 46 Councillor, Mike Mthimkulu, Jabulani Ward 130 Councillor David Mona, the ANC REC member of the City of Johannesburg Maggie Phungula.

“We appreciate the support from family members and residents from the area and the suspect will appear in court on November 25, 2019,” Mahopo concluded.
