Armed robbery at Meadowlands tavern left residents shaken

A victim shot in the lower back, Sanele Manyoni relayed the incident to Urban News and said everything happened so fast.

Four suspects targeted the Kwa Star Tavern at Meadowlands Zone 4, Soweto in an armed robbery which left five people wounded.

It was reported that two armed men on April 4, at 9pm, entered the tavern while the other two stayed outside.

The two inside robbed the people of their money, phones and clothing, and from the tavern alcohol, and money.

“As the two suspects entered, they shot at one guy, and I tried running away, only to get shot by one guy outside the tavern. They shot at three more people, left us on the floor and walked off.”

Manyoni shared this ordeal was a first for them, exposing how unsafe they are in the community.

Star Khumalo, the tavern owner, shared he was not there when the incident occurred. However, he shared the incident took him by surprise and immensely affected business.

Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko said the police opened cases of business robbery and five counts of attempted murder.
