The Soweto Marathon NPC, which organises the event on behalf of the Soweto Athletics Club, has also confirmed that preparations are in full swing with the race team, office, partners and sponsors fully committed to this year’s marathon.

This year’s route remains unchanged, taking runners past eight of Soweto’s most significant heritage landmarks – the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, the Walter Sisulu Square, the Regina Mundi Catholic Church, the Credo Mutwa Cultural Village, Morris Isaacson High School, the June 16 Memorial Acre, the bustling Vilakazi Street, and the Hector Pieterson Memorial, each reflecting the rich history and resilience of Soweto.

“We are grateful to again have the trust of the athletics clubs of Soweto,” said Soweto Marathon spokesperson Jabu Mbuli.
“The support from our partners, clubs, governing bodies and runners has been extraordinary.”
“We understand the standard our community expects and promise nothing short of excellence from the start gun to the finish line,” said Mbuli.
Mbuli added that while the athletics clubs of Soweto own the race, the NPC’s role is to deliver an event that embodies passion, spirit, unity and celebration.
